How to install FLYonGB ROM on the Samsung Galaxy SL i9003

Wanna experience a custom ROM on your device with zero-almost no bugs? Here's a tutorial on how to install the Gingerbread based FLYonGB ROM for the Samsung Galaxy SL i9003.


Caution: Please note that rooting/flashing your device voids your warranty and if done incorrectly may damage your device. Please do it at your own risk. This method is suitable for Samsung Galaxy SL i9003 device only! Please read through the entire thread before going ahead with the installation.

Things to do before we start:

  • Take a full backup of your phone on your computer. (Pictures/Videos/Contacts/Music etc)
  • Disable all security suites installed in your computer.
  • Enable USB debugging on your Samsung Galaxy SL i9003 from the path "Settings -- Applications -- Development -- USB Debugging. The check box next to it should be ticked.
  • Disable all traces of Samsung Kies running on your computer from the task manager.



Step 1: Get the required ROM file from the respective links.

--> i9003XXKPE version: Download Link
--> Gingerbread DDLF2: Download Link
--> FLYonGB ROM: Download Link (Save this file on the external SD card of your phone)
--> Link to the kernel: Download Link PDA BCK

We'll begin the installation from Gingerbread DDLF2, click here to see how to install DDLF2.

Step 2: Switch off your device and get it onto the Download mode by pressing Volume Down + Home + Power key.
Step 3: Connect the micro USB cable to the Phone/PC.
Step 4: Open ODIN program on the PC. (Confirm connection through Yellow Box)
Step5: Hit the PDA box and browse and locate the kernel file. (PDA BCK)
Step6: Hit Start, the phone will reboot and will restart with the DDLF2 ROM. This will also root your device and install CWM and Superuser onto the device.
Step7: Open CWM and click Reboot to Recovery.
Step8: In the recovery mode, select: Wipe data/Factory reset and hit Yes, then head on to Mounts & Storage and select: Format system and hit yes, and similarly select Format emmc and hit yes.
Step9:  Go back and select Install zip from SD card, Choose zip from SD card and select the FLYonGB ROM file and hit yes.



Thats it, you should now be running FLYonGB ROM on your device.
